2012 Fantasy Baseball Draft Player Rankings - Second Basemen

  1. Robinson Cano - Cano is easily the cream of the crop of the 2B class. 25-30 homeruns and an average above .300 at a premium position make him a top first round pick in every draft.
  2. Dustin Pedroia - A 20HR/20SB guy that hits .300 is very rare, especially at second base. This puts Pedroia among the top talents in the game.
  3. Ian Kinsler - Kinsler is a 25/25 threat every year now and ought to hit around .270 in Arlington. He‘s a one of the top second basemen in the league right now.
  4. Dan Uggla - His name…is Dan Uggla. In a bounce back season he is a good bet to hit his 30 homeruns while batting around .260. He‘s one of the streakiest players in the game, so don‘t get discouraged if he goes 3 for 264 like he did to start off last season.
  5. Chase Utley - Don‘t draft names. Utley is still a very good second baseman, he‘s just an older and injury-prone one now. He’ll still see significant action and will probably hit .280 with about 20 homers. He isn‘t in his prime anymore so don‘t expect a revival at this point.
  6. Rickie Weeks - Durability concerns aside, Weeks is a star player. The Brewer should knock 20+ homers, steal 10 or so, and hit a good .270.
  7. Brandon Phillips - Phillips is still a top talent and should continue to put up a line around .280/19 with 15 stolen bases.
  8. Ben Zobrist - A few years removed from his breakout season, Zobrist is still a good option at second base. Expect a line of .265/18/20 in another good year.
  9. Howie Kendrick - A.290 hitter that will hit 15 and steal 15, making him the last of the top second basemen in the MLB.
  10. Danny Espinosa - Espinosa burst on the scene last year and gave Kimbrel a run for the ROY award. Look for a 20/20 season but with an average in the mid .240‘s. Certainly not too shabby though.
  11. Jason Kipnis - The rookie Kipnis is a bit of a wild card at the position. If he continues his growth and adjusts to the league we could see over 15 stolen bases and 15 homers and a .265 average.
  12. Dustin Ackley - Ackley Kid will have another productive year in the league similar to his first. Expect something around a .260/12/15 slash line.
  13. Neil Walker - Walker should hit about 15 homers, steal 8, and bat .280 in a full year of starting for Pittsburgh.
  14. Jemile Weeks - A fine .280 hitter that will swipe about 30 bags. With warning track power though, you‘ll be lucky to get more than 4 or 5 homers. Still a valuable starter though.
  15. Ryan Roberts - Tatman‘s tour de force last season took the league by surprise. A .255/15/16 line wouldn't out of the realm of possibility.
  16. Kelly Johnson - The outfielder turned second baseman should knock 17 out, hit .250 and steal a dozen. Not shabby numbers at all.
  17. Ryan Raburn - Look for Raburn to hit about .255 with 16 homeruns in 400 and change at bats.
  18. Aaron Hill - The former first round pick and Californian ought to post a .255/13/12 slash in his new home Chase field.
  19. Jose Altuve - Altuve is a good hitter, about a .280 average with 8 or so long balls good. Couple that with slick 20 SB speed and you have a solid player. You can probably get him later in the draft too.
  20. Sean Rodriguez - Sean-Rod will have another 15 homeruns and a .250 average in 2012.
  21. Gordon Beckham The product of UGA will continue to develop and post something around .255/14.
  22. Alexi Casilla - Not much power, but he’s good to hit .270 with 15 stolen bases. If he knocks a couple of homeruns just consider it an early holiday gift.
  23. Ty Wigginton - Look for an average in the mid .240’s and 15 homers.
  24. Omar Infante - Infante should have a good batting average around .285 with 8 or so homeruns. You could do worse at seconds base, but you could also do better.
  25. Orlando Hudson - Expect a .260/8/13 year out of O-Dog. Nothing special here folks.
  26. Clint Barmes
  27. Brian Roberts
  28. Mike Aviles
  29. Jed Lowrie
  30. Marco Scutaro
  31. Mark Ellis
  32. Maicer Izturis
  33. Chone Figgins
  34. Freddy Sanchez
  35. Alberto Callaspo
  36. Jose Lopez
  37. Jeff Keppinger
  38. Skip Schumaker
  39. Juan Uribe
  40. Mark DeRosa
  41. Ryan Theriot
  42. Bill Hall
  43. Melvin Mora
  44. Adam Kennedy
  45. Felipe Lopez
